Privacy requests

A privacy request is a formal way to ask Orrery to act on the information it holds about you โ€” to tell you what there is, give you a copy, correct it, or delete it. A person reviews every one, and there is a record of what was asked and what was done.

Most people don't need one

Two of the things people usually want are already in Settings, take effect straight away, and need nobody's help.

Download your data
Settings builds an archive in your browser straight away. It doesn't contain everything โ€” the download itself says what.
Delete or deactivate your account
Both are in Settings and both take effect at once. Deactivating is a reversible pause that deletes nothing; deleting is permanent.

When a formal request is the right thing

  • You want to know what Orrery holds about you, beyond what the download in Settings contains.
  • You want something corrected that you can't edit yourself.
  • You want information deleted and you can't get into your account to do it yourself.
  • You're exercising a right you have where you live, and you want it on the record.
  • You don't have an Orrery account at all, and you think there is information about you here.

What happens

  1. You tell us what you want, in your own words. You don't need an account, and you don't need to know which right you're using.
  2. You confirm your email. We send a link; nothing happens until you follow it, because that is how we know we're talking to the right person.
  3. A person reviews it and may come back to you if they need more to be sure who you are.
  4. We do it, and tell you. You get a reference you can use to check on it at any point.

๐Ÿ”’ What we will never ask you for

Your password, your security answers, or a photograph of an identity document. Nobody at Orrery will ever ask you for your password โ€” not in a privacy request, not in support, not ever. Please don't include it.
