Terms of Service & Community Rules
Version 2026-06-12 · Effective June 12, 2026
These Terms of Service and Community Rules govern your use of Orrery. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. They apply to everyone — members, community moderators, and business owners alike.
Acceptable use
Use Orrery lawfully and respectfully. Don’t use it to break the law, infringe others’ rights, or interfere with the service’s operation or security.
Age requirement
You must be at least 13 years old to use Orrery (or older where your local law requires). By using Orrery you confirm you meet this requirement.
Harassment, spam & abuse
Harassment, threats, hate speech, spam, and deceptive or abusive behavior are not allowed. Repeated or serious violations can lead to content removal, muting, suspension, or termination.
Your responsibility for what you post
You are responsible for the content you post, send, or upload, and for ensuring you have the right to share it. Content you create may be visible to others according to the visibility settings of where you post it.
License to your content
You keep ownership of the content you create. To operate Orrery, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and display your content solely to provide and improve the service — for example, showing your posts to the people you’ve shared them with. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content others have already saved or where retention is required for security, audit, or legal reasons, and except for residual backup copies.
Business & community ownership
If you claim a business or own a community, you are responsible for managing it appropriately — including the conduct that takes place within it and the people you grant authority to.
Connecting third-party services
Orrery lets you connect third-party accounts such as Facebook and Instagram. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms, and you agree to comply with them when you connect them. We are not responsible for third-party services, and they may change, limit, or end their APIs at any time, which can affect connected features. You may disconnect at any time.
Community admin & moderator powers
Community owners and the moderators (community admins) they appoint may moderate within the scope of their community. Their authority is limited to that community and its sub-communities and never extends to platform-wide powers.
Post removal
Owners, moderators, and platform admins may remove posts or comments that violate these rules or a community’s standards. Removal within a community does not necessarily affect the same content shared elsewhere.
Copyright & takedowns
If you believe content on Orrery infringes your copyright, contact us at [email protected] with enough detail to identify the work and the content in question. We will review and remove infringing material where appropriate, and may remove the accounts of repeat infringers.
Suspensions & mutes
- A mute is a scoped restriction within a single community — a muted member can still read, but can’t post, react, or message there, for a set time or until lifted.
- A platform suspension restricts access to your whole account and is applied by platform administrators.
Account termination
You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, that pose a risk to others, or as required by law. Some records may be retained where necessary for security, audit, or legal reasons.
Business owners’ responsibilities
Business owners are responsible for managing their communities: setting appropriate visibility, curating membership, and moderating content and conduct. Appointing a moderator does not remove the owner’s responsibility for their community.
Disclaimer of warranties
Orrery is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that connected third-party features will always be available.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Orrery (Christopher Barber) and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, use, goodwill, or profits, arising out of your use of Orrery. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed one hundred US dollars ($100).
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Orrery (Christopher Barber) and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your content, your use of Orrery, or your violation of these terms or of any third party’s rights.
Governing law & disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. You agree that any dispute that is not resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Orange County, California, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we make material changes we will update the version and ask you to review and accept the updated terms before continuing to use Orrery.
