Voice and video calls

Calling someone, who is allowed to call you, and community rooms.

A person's Comms tab has Voice and Video next to Messages. Calls are between accounts, so you can only call someone whose Orrery account is linked to your contact. Who can call you is yours to set, in Settings → Privacy → Presence & calls: - your availability — Available, Away, Do Not Disturb or Appear offline, - who may call — your Inner Orbit, Inner and Outer, anyone in your orbit, or nobody. If a call is refused, the message is deliberately the same whatever the reason. That is on purpose: otherwise a call attempt could be used to work out whether you had blocked someone or set Do Not Disturb. Microphones and cameras. A missing or busy camera never stops a call — the call continues with that device off and tells you which one had a problem. Audio & video settings lets you switch device before and during a call. Community rooms. A shared cluster can have voice and video rooms you join and leave. Joining turns your microphone on, so it is always a deliberate tap. Calling has to be switched on for the Orrery you are using. Where it is not, Start and Join are greyed out and Orrery says so, rather than putting you into a call that could never connect. Orrery never stores the audio or video of a call. Only the fact that a call happened, who was in it and how long it lasted.
Availability and who may call you are both set here.

Still stuck?

If none of these answer your question, there are two ways to reach a person.

  • If you can sign in: open Orrery, then choose Help & Support and press Contact support. Your request goes to the Support Center, where you can read the reply and follow it up.
  • If you cannot sign in: email [email protected]. A person reads it. Please describe what happens and what you were trying to do — and never include your password: nobody at Orrery will ever ask you for it.
