Trouble creating an account

Creating a new account versus signing in, the messages the sign-up screen can show, and where to go next.

Creating an account and signing in are different. If you have used Orrery before, you already have an account: sign in instead of signing up. A new account starts empty — it does not bring back your orbit, your contacts or your messages. Messages the sign-up screen can show - "An account with that email already exists" — that address already has an Orrery account. Sign in with it. If you do not remember the password, use the forgotten-password option on the sign-in screen (see If you have forgotten your password). - "That username is taken" or "That handle is reserved." — choose a different username. - "Orrery is invite-only right now" — a new account needs an invite link from someone who is already a member. Open the link they sent you and sign up from there. - "Please enter your full date of birth, including the year" — every part of the date is needed. Check the day, the month and the year. Signing up with Google Continue with Google looks for an Orrery account with the same verified email address. If it finds none, Orrery asks before doing anything: you can create a new account, and you may also be offered I already have an Orrery account, which connects Google to the account you already have. Connecting still needs that account's password. If you see "That sign-in is already linked to an Orrery account", that Google account already belongs to an Orrery account — use Continue with Google on the sign-in screen rather than signing up. If the screen says your sign-in session expired, start again from Continue with Google. "Sorry — we can't create an Orrery account for you." The sign-up screen does not give a reason for this message, and trying again shows the same message. No account is created. If something you entered was wrong If you believe something you entered while signing up was wrong and you cannot fix it yourself, it may need help from a person — describe what happened using the options below. Never include your password: nobody at Orrery will ever ask you for it. If this has not solved it - If you can sign in: open Help & Support and choose Contact support. - If you cannot sign in, or do not have an account yet: the Still stuck? section of the Help Center at orrery.social/help explains how to reach a person.

Still stuck?

If none of these answer your question, there are two ways to reach a person.

  • If you can sign in: open Orrery, then choose Help & Support and press Contact support. Your request goes to the Support Center, where you can read the reply and follow it up.
  • If you cannot sign in: email [email protected]. A person reads it. Please describe what happens and what you were trying to do — and never include your password: nobody at Orrery will ever ask you for it.
