Push notifications

Getting notified when Orrery is closed, and what each device can do.

Push notifications reach you when Orrery is not open. Turn them on with the Push notifications switch in Settings, and allow notifications when your browser asks. If your browser says notifications are blocked, Orrery cannot ask again — you have to allow them in the browser's own settings for the site. Orrery will tell you that this is the state you are in rather than failing silently. Push is per device and browser, so turning it on at your desk does not turn it on your phone. On an iPhone or iPad, notifications only work if you have added Orrery to your Home Screen and allowed notifications there. A Safari tab on its own cannot receive them. That is an Apple restriction, not a setting in Orrery. Calls. An incoming call can reach you as a notification with Answer and Decline on desktop Chrome or Edge and on Android. On other platforms you get a normal notification that opens the call. A locked phone ringing like a real telephone needs a native app, which Orrery does not have — so calls should not be relied on as the only way to reach you.
Push has to be allowed per device and per browser — this is where you ask.
