Inner Orbit, Outer Orbit and Outer Space

What the three bands mean and how to move someone between them.

Everyone in your orbit sits in one of three bands, and the arrangement is yours to make. Nobody is notified when you move someone. Do bear in mind that a band is part of how your orbit is drawn, so anyone who can see your network can see which ring a person sits on — if you would rather they could not, use Who can see your network in Settings → Privacy. - Inner Orbit — the people closest to you. They sit inside the dashed ring. - Outer Orbit — everyone else you keep in view. - Outer Space — dormant. They are still your contact, but they are not drawn on the map at all. You reach them from the Outer Space list in the header, where you can bring someone back. There are two ways to move someone: 1. Drag their planet. Within a band you can put them anywhere you like and it stays there. Crossing into another band always asks you first — a drag never quietly re-classifies a relationship. Dragging past the outer edge offers to send them to Outer Space. 2. Open their planet, choose Settings, and use the Relationship Tier control — Inner, Outer or Outer Space. When you change someone's band, their planet glides to its new ring rather than jumping, so you can see what happened. Being in a cluster is separate from all of this. Someone can be in a cluster and in your Inner Orbit; the two are different questions.
The dashed rings are the bands. Inner Orbit is nearest you, then Outer Orbit; anyone in Outer Space is not drawn on the map at all.

Still stuck?

If none of these answer your question, there are two ways to reach a person.

  • If you can sign in: open Orrery, then choose Help & Support and press Contact support. Your request goes to the Support Center, where you can read the reply and follow it up.
  • If you cannot sign in: email [email protected]. A person reads it. Please describe what happens and what you were trying to do — and never include your password: nobody at Orrery will ever ask you for it.
