Importing your contacts

You can bring in contacts from Google Contacts or from a .vcf file. Nothing is sent to anybody. Importing never messages, invites, follows or notifies a single person. It puts people into your own orbit and stops there. People added this way start as private contacts, so they are not shown to anyone looking at your network. You choose who comes in. The import shows you what it found, grouped so you can work through it: people already in your orbit, likely matches for someone you already have, likely duplicates within the file, people who are already on Orrery, and people who are new. Nothing is added until you say so, and you can then place everyone into bands and clusters before finishing. Google Contacts is read-only. Orrery asks only for permission to read your contacts, never to change them, and reads the contacts you have saved — not Google's automatically collected "other contacts". You can disconnect at any time in the importer; the people you already imported stay, they just stop being updated. Re-importing is safe. Orrery compares against what it saw last time and offers changes — "this person has a new number" — rather than making them. If someone has disappeared from your address book, Orrery flags it and never deletes the person from your orbit.
