Downloading a copy of your data

Settings → Account → Data gives you a downloadable copy of your orbit as an .orrery file. It contains your profile, your contacts, your clusters, your posts and your bookmarks. Being straight with you about what it is not. This is a backup of your orbit, not a complete archive of everything Orrery holds about you. It does not include your messages, your events, your call history or your Comets. Photos and videos are mostly not in it. Media that Orrery stores on its servers — which is where post photos and videos have lived for some time — is not bundled into the file. Only pictures the browser you are downloading from still keeps its own copy of are included. Treat the file as a copy of your orbit's records rather than of your pictures, and save anything you particularly want to keep separately. The same screen can restore one of these files (older backups ending .orbit still work). Restoring merges it into your current orbit rather than replacing it — your own profile is never overwritten, and new contacts are added alongside what you already have. If you want something the download does not cover, ask through Support and a person will handle it. Orrery does not publish a timeframe for that, and this article is not going to invent one. Deleting your account is separate and permanent — take the download first if you want it.
